Background information; by edgardowelelo@yahoo.com.

In highly industrialized Europe, Man has greatly modified his former natural environment. It is in the last few centuries, of course, that the Landscapes have been altered most violently a development very pronounced in the Mediterranean region, where most soil is now exposed to erosion. Central and northern Europe, are as formerly glaciated and hence less vulnerable, have escaped destructive erosion, though Central Europe retains very few virgin areas. In this respect northern Europe is more favored, due in part to its relatively low population and to a rigid climate. Europe exhibits many climates and vegetation regions, with characteristic fauna, ranging from the almost subtropical Mediterranean to the Arctic Evergreen Vegetation, deciduous forests, grass steppes, mixed forests, coniferous forests, and the tundra are the main vegetation zones. Many are hard to distinguish today because cultivation and industrialization have so changed the original scene.
